Collaborations When the WPI team presented their work, they mentioned how they didn’t have access to a flow cytometer for cell-to-cell measurement. We then approached them and asked whether they would let us perform some measurements for them using our flow cytometer. They agreed to in turn take pictures of cells expressing some of our constructs using their confocal microscopes.
The BU iGEM team organized the New England iGem meet ups on June 20th, August 6th and October 4th, which was attended by iGEM teams from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Harvard, MIT and Tufts. This was done in part to stimulate discussions about Synthetic Biology in a pressure-free environment. The second meet up onwards, everyone was also asked to fill feedback sheets for every team's presentation. Students were also split up into smaller groups for more one-to-one feedback and discussion regarding troubleshooting tips, the role of bio-design automation and software tools in the SynBio community. This way all teams could better learn from each other's mistakes and issues, provide pointed feedback and ultimately, learn to engage with people on topics of academic significance.
