Education
We conducted workshop and made a presentation at Sapporo Kita High School in Hokkaido, to the students major in science.
Our Goal
Through our lecture, we tried to achieve these three main topics for high-school students.
- Tell what iGEM is and our activity is
- Encourage high-school students to be interested in iGEM
- Give correct information of genetic technology
- Obtain their opinions about gene recombination
We showed them some examples which were already practical application and took time to think about gene recombination and its future.
Survey
STUDENT1
Against to gene recombination, I have little knowledge about it ever. However, by taking this lecture, I found well that it had possibility to give our daily-life really big benefits.
I hope that we make the risk of gene recombination smaller little by little and such a technology will be used more widely. By spreading correct knowledge of gene recombination more widely to people, it may be used more commonly.
STUDENT2
Taking this lecture, I got two findings. First, we can put our hope in new technology like gene recombination for foods and our life in the future. Another, we human have big responsibility using such a technology because it is not only enable to change original character of living things artificially but also we don’t’ know clearly how change or what effect on them. It’s important to make use of correct knowledge on gene recombination we got today and to share it as many people as possible.
STUDENT3
I agree with using technology of gene recombination itself. However, also I also know it has ethical problem and I have only a vague idea of it. Because of this, I can’t decide my opinion about it yet.
In the future, they are our future tasks; we have to show clear facts that how living things genetically modified organisms have how effect on environment and human health, and have to make it more safelyty and evident.
