Project Abstract

The 2014 Utah State University iGEM team aims to engineer E. coli to eliminate tough laundry stains using enzymes that can break down various stains (e.g. oils, proteins, starches, pigments). By biologically immobilizing these enzymes onto bacterially-produced bioplastic, we plan to create a reusable stain-fighting device to be used as a pre-treatment or as an additive to traditional laundry.
