Teen Spirit

‘Old people smell’ is a characteristic smell of people over 40 caused by the appearance of 2-nonenal in sweat. In this project we isolated and characterized natural bacteria that can metabolize 2-nonenal and therefore attenuate its smell. These bacteria could be used in a cosmetic product to reduce 2-nonenal in body odor.

Something Fishy

We created a new Biobrick by cloning tmm gene into a Biobrick vector and expressed it in E. coli. The activity of TMM was demonstrated both with a color test and a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer analysis, showing that trimethylamine is degraded and fish odor reduced.

Goody Two Shoes

Aenean euismod enim magna, id pretium eros molestie non. Proin rutrum lobortis leo, sit amet congue erat. Nulla congue pellentesque augue porta dignissim. Pellentesque quis ex sollicitudin, condimentum risus varius, aliquet ipsum. Ut pulvinar aliquet maximus. Praesent imperdiet interdum commodo.

Don't Sweat It

- Designed a BioBrick of agaA (main gene responsible for body odor) in pSB1C3.
- Found hotspots for genes ackA and ldh (responsible for body odor) found in human microbiome samples.
- Design CRISPRs to select for natural odorless strains.
- Made a DIY formulation of probiotic cream.

Interlab study

The aim of the Interlab Study was to measure GFP expression under different Anderson promoters and in different plasmids.
iGEM Paris Bettencourt team

  • - Successfully transformed E.coli NEB with BBa_I20260 (J23101-B0032-E0040-B0010-B0012) in the pSB3K3 vector - Device 1
  • - Successfully built BBa_J23101 + BBa_E0240 (B0032-E0040-B0015) in pSB1C3 backbone - Device 2
  • - Successfully built BBa_J23115 + BBa_E0240 (B0032-E0040-B0015) in pSB1C3 backbone - Device 3
  • - Sequenced and gel verified the three devices
  • - Characterized all the three devices with the OD600 and fluorescence measurements in a Tecan micro-plate reader
  • - Reported the results on the Interlab Study page of the iGEM wiki
  • - Completed the description of the BBa_I20260 - Device 1
  • - Submitted and send parts: BBa_K1403000 - Device 2 and BBa_K1403001 - Device 3 to the Biobricks registry
