Students
The iGEM team 2014 was composed primarily of 3rd year undergraduate students from the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences at Macquarie University. Team members this year had a variety of talents - ranging from legal expertise to outstanding business aptitude. Robert and Nadia combined their lab skills with outstanding business acumen to contribute excellently to both our dry and wet lab teams. Mitchell and Chris worked on the team’s wiki and also helped with the day to day workings of the wet lab team. Will, Ahmed, Sunny, Eddie and Leah spearheaded the laboratory work, whilst Amit and Alice jointly worked on marketing, communications and team management. On the other hand, Dean used his expertise in Mathematics to singularly tackle the team’s Modelling project. Overall, the combination of such diverse talents coupled with an enthusiasm and willingness for hard work made for a very strong and well functional team.

Leah Simmons
With skills in molecular biology, Leah is a valuable asset in the lab. She wants to pursue a career in medical research and thinks it would be her humble contribution to make the world better for everyone.
Eddie Park
Eddie is our plasmid prep extraordinaire. He describes himself as a keen traveller and basketball enthusiast. Eddie hopes to pursue a career in the wonderful world of synthetic biology.
Dean Southwood
Dean is our resident boy wonder who is pursing four majors (Biomolecular science, physics, chemistry and math). Dean wants to go into research that will combine his love for physics and organic chemistry.
Amit Bhattacharjee
Amit currently manages our social media outlets and other marketing initiatives. He hopes to pursue a career in science communication and enjoys public speaking, debating and posting selfies on Facebook.
Sunny Wu
Sunny is our self-proclaimed buffer expert. He is highly interested in biochemistry, genetics and synthetic biology and plans on pursuing postgraduate studies in medicine or even a PhD.
Alice Fielding-Smith
Alice is our resident jack-of–all trades and is very involved in our dry lab team. She plans on using her talents in Bioinformatics and Proteomics to further cancer research in the future.
Ahmed Elsayed
As a lab gun, Ahmed has proven to be an irreplaceable asset to our wet lab team. Outside academia, Ahmed is both an avid body builder and harbours a love for the world of auto-mobiles.
Chris D'Netto
Christopher harbours a keen interest in areas of genetics & patent law, and the philosophy of science. More importantly Chris is our resident graphics design and lab safety expert!
Nadia Abdel-Fatah
With killer business acumen and enviable lab skills Nadia is a valuable asset to both our wet lab and fundraising team. She is involved with several charity organisations and youth initiatives.
Mitchell Jeitani
Mitchell is our main man behind the wiki. Mitchell harbours a special interest in pathology/microbiology and hopes to integrate this into a medical career in the future.
Robert Hewetson
Robbie combines his love for science and business as part of our fundraising and outreach teams, he hopes to introduce this into his future careers as well.
William Klare
William is our lab ninja who already has an undergrad degree under his belt. As a researcher, he aims to explore the mechanisms of infection and immunity.
