. To make magetosomes in E.coli, at least two processes are required; vesicle formation and uptake of iron in it. It had been unclear what genes were necessary for them in E. coli. We focused on vesicle formation through this project, and found mamL/Q, derived from Magnetospirillum magnetotacticum, played an important role in vesicle formation. We did detect organelles in mamL/Q-induced E.coli.

Project Overview

Clouds, which gives us rain and shade is the very important thing on the Earth. Some scientists say that coral and some other sea bacteria produce DMS, dimethyl sulfide which turns to be a seed of cloud. We focused on this interesting phenomenon. What we do is to create the E. coli which can produce DMS. In order to do so, we introduce the biosynthetic pathway of DMS into E. coli and detect the products by HPLC and DMS detector tube. Don't you think it is fantastic if the small creature, E. coli, creates the big things, clouds? And this projects may have the possibility to answer the environmental problem.

Project Overview

We're dreaming of keeping E. coil in hand; moving them here and there. Magneto.coli will realize it. A magnetosome is an organelle seen in magnetotactic bacteria; storing magnetite in it. We believe E. coil with a magnetosome can be moved by magnetism . To make magetosomes in E. coil, at least two processes are required; vesicle formation and uptake of iron in it. It had been unclear what genes were necessary for them in E. coil. We focused on vesicle formation through this project, and found mamL/Q, derived from Magnetospirillum magnetotacticum, played an important role in vesicle formation. We did detect organelles in mamL/Q-induced E. coil.
