The New Application- "Catch-All" Track

Our project is multifaceted and encompasses different fields, reflecting the diversity of our team. We have been working on biological, bioinformatical and technological fronts as well as a strong hold on outreach. This work has allowed the introduction of a novel chassis, Marchantia Polymorpha, opening iGEM to the plant world.

We aim to open access to synthetic biology by the introduction of this new-user friendly plant chassis, allowing users to build genetic circuits in the comfort of their home.

The issue of cheap and open access has so far never been tackled successfully. Our unconventional solution is to modularise plant strains which can then be crossed by simple Mendelian genetics.
This shift in paradigm brings Synthetic Biology out of the high-resource-requiring labs and into the open.

Foundational Advance

New Application teams work to create novel, forward thinking projects and innovative ideas that don't fit into conventional paradigms. It is the novelty of ideas and approach in investigating a question that may never have previously been examined that qualifies a project in the New Application track. The Foundational Advance track allows teams to come up with novel solution to technical problems surrounding core synbio technologies.
