PLA Degradation

Add shredded PLA, NaOH, and a magnetic stir bar into a 250 Erlenmeyer flask in a 1:2 molar ratio respectively. Add enough 50% ethanol to cover the contents in the flask. Cover the mouth of the flask with a small watchglass and heat the reaction to 40-50°C until completely dissolved.
