Strict Access Control will be implemented at the Giant Jamboree
We recently sent out the following letter to all instructors.
Bear in mind that this applies to everyone attending the Giant Jamboree.
Dear iGEM instructor,
It has come to our attention that there are teams who intend on registering a few team members and then arriving at the event with non-registered team members hoping to gain access.
THIS WILL NOT WORK.
Our Giant Jamboree will take place at the Hynes Convention Center this year, instead of MIT. At MIT, events on campus are open to MIT students, staff and visitors. Events at the Hynes are not. All members of your team who plan to attend must register or they will be turned away.
While we need to enforce strict access control because of the venue, we must also do this because this practice does not respect iGEM and the teams who follow the rules and have registered properly. We trust and respect our community and expect others to do the same.
Attendees should wear their badges at all times during the Jamboree. Badges will be required to enter the Hynes after registration, to enter each session, to get food, to get into the social event and to access all of the special events. If someone does not buy a pass for the whole event, day passes are available.
We will be monitoring access at many points during the Jamboree. Anyone who attempts to enter the controlled access area without a badge will be turned away and must register and pay to receive a badge. Anyone who disregards this and attempts to enter regardless of the rules will be expelled from the premises.
Blatant disregard for iGEM rules and requirements falls under the jurisdiction of the Responsible Conduct Committee.
All teams must take this seriously.

Sincerely,
iGEM Headquarters
