Taking part in the iGEM competition - behind the scenes

Beside all formalities and scientific work, you will get a read how we managed to organize all issues concerning iGEM. From team formation to finances to the attendance of the Giant Jamboree.

Nov 2013

- Foundation of iGEM Hannover
- Presentation and developping of topics begin.

Dec 2013

Jan 2014

- Writing a draft paper about iGEM and synthetic biology to find give possible sponsors an impression of our work.

Feb 2014

- Our topic is determined. We have chosen to lead off the fight against pollution with heavy metals.
- Completion of our draft paper with information about our topic.
- Visiting the local sewage plant.

Mar 2014

- We officially signed up for iGEM competition 2014!
- Our homepage is online now.

Apr 2014

May 2014

- Synthesis of our self-designed T4-MBP is submitted.
- Andi and Fabian took part in the iGEM meeting 2014 in Munich.
- The iGEM team Braunschweig visited us for a barbecue.

June 2014

- Andi presented our topic at the science slam in hanover.
- We started visiting schools to conduct a presentation about synthetic biology and how we use it to achieve our goal.

July 2014

Aug 2014

- We invited the newspaper "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" to achieve publicity.
- We built up an information desk in the inner-city of hanover to give passerby an understanding of synthetic biology by demonstrating a DNA isolation with simple housewares, plaing a memoryquiz and showing in vitro cultures.
- Anke, Fabian and Andi visited the iGEM team Bielefeld to learn how to build up the wiki.

To handle the hugh amount of work you should split up the work to smaller teams of specialists.
Tasks which should be assigned to the team members are:
- Finances
- Sponsoring
- Safety issues
- Human practice
-overview of formalities and time
Test
