BACKGROUND

Foot odor is generally perceived as socially awkward and negative.Bacillus subtilis, a common bacterium that lives on feet is one of the main responsible of the bad foot odor. One of the molecules produced by B. subtilis uses the leucine degradation pathway to produce isovaleric acid, which smells like parmesan cheese.

AIMS

There are a many commercially available solutions for this problem, current products indiscriminately target bacteria on the foot skin microbiome which can have negative effects on skin health and microbiome dynamics. We aim to develop a targeted approach to prevent foot odor, by selectively killing microbes responsible for the biosynthesis of volatile compounds.

Introduction

Mobile dating apps, like Tinder, have become more and more popular over the last years. Online dating is starting to influence other sectors of human relations. One attempt was the establishment of the employment website Emjoyment. Although this website did not have the expected success, we were thinking about ways to connect strategies of online dating with the scientific world.

Minder is an Android app that allows you to present your scientific idea to the world, read other's ideas and get in contact with people to discuss and create projects. An idea consists of one sentence. In its first version, Minder will show you ideas from other users based on tags selected by you. You can decide if you like an idea by selecting the like or dislike button. A third button, for reporting an idea, is used for quality control. If you like an idea, you reach a page with a brief description of the idea and a way to get in contact with the user. The second version of Minder will include a chat function to establish immediate contact between all users who like an idea.

Minder cooperates with ideaweave, a website for people to brainstorm and create projects together. Ideas in Minder correspond to challenges in ideaweave. A challenge consists of a short title and a brief description. It allows people to discuss about it and create projects regarding the challenge. Users of Minder are automatically registered in the ideaweave database, enabling them to create challenges and projects on the website. On the other hand, the challenges in ideaweave can be incorporated in Minder as ideas. This cooperation helps both platforms to gain accessibility and users.

Minder is our attempt to connect people with great ideas and to help them in the process of building a project.

You can find the source code for Minder on GitHub.

The Homepage

The homepage of Minder shows you the ideas of other users, one at a time. If you like the idea, click the like button, otherwise select the dislike button. If you think that the idea is not appropriate or is a duplicate of another idea, you can report it with the report button. If you liked an idea, a page with further description of the idea and the contact information of the user who created it appears. On this page, you can select to see the next idea. Minder will only show you ideas that you have not rated yet. If you have seen all ideas in the database, you can select to see old ideas again. By selecting the menu button in the upper left corner of the homepage, you can navigate through the different functionalities of Minder, set tags and language filters for the displayed ideas or log out.

Create an idea

This page gives you the opportunity to define your idea and to share it with the Minder community. You need to select a title that describes your idea in a short and precise way. Your idea will be rated by the other users based on the title. You should also define the language of your idea and write a short paragraph of additional information. If you want to be contacted by the users who like your idea, you can include your contact information on this page.
