Revision as of 15:15, 14 October 2014
Since firstly taking part in iGEM in 2007, Peking iGEM has developed to be an influential team in China. During this summer, Peking iGEM communicated with other teams in China for several reasons:
a. To communicate experiments and modelling with other teams.
b. To investigate how synthetic biology and iGEM Competition were spread in China.
c. To let other iGEMers know the harm of water bloom.
In August, Instructor LIU Shiyu and vice team leader WANG Chenggong went to several universities in China.
Later, as well as two team members YAO Lanqiu and Sherry Teng, the two mentioned above participated in the First Central China iGEMers‘ Meet Up in Wuhan with other ten teams. Also, we received several visits from other teams. They joined our group meetings, visited labs, discussed experiments and models. What’s more, we provided BIT some experiment equipments in assistance of their projects and gave constructive suggestions on modelling to Beijing Normal University.During the trip, we visited SJTU, ZJU, and USTC. We introduced our project “Ranger amongst Enemies” to these teams, and we especially introduced the modelling part.
Beijing Normal University firstly joined in iGEM competition, and they made a visit to us in later Sepetmber. Vice team leader WANG Chenggong held a discussion and team members of binding group joined in. Binding group introduced their work. As an important improvement in our project, binding part attracted attentions from iGEMers from Beijing Normal University. In experiments, cross membrane protein INP was used as the scaffold of surface display in two teams’ project. We compared displaying efficiency of INP and its variants.
WANG Chenggong introduced Peking’s models, from the insight to the methods, and analysis results. Binding model was explained in detail. Later, they discussed Beijing Normal University’s project and WANG Chenggong gave some suggestions.
Team communication is a essential part of human practice.Tens of Meet up were held before the Giant Jamboree around the world. By communicating, teams exchange their ideas and problems. For instance, Peking iGEM and OUC-China both used holin/endolysin system as a inducted suicide system, we discussed experiment protocols and results for several months. Peking iGEM later provided these two gene to OUC-China due to the little difference between the genes we used. Also, OUC-China sent their gas vesicle sequences to us and did a comfirming test.
