BioBrick Parts

For iGEM 2014, the UT Austin team has biobricked two non-canonical amino acid (ncAA) tRNA synthetases with their cognate tRNAs. There are now three ncAA tRNA synthetases biobricked, including one from last year's UT Austin team.

These parts have been tested and characterized as part of our ncAA kit project and our Photocage project.

Related Parts and Plasmids - Not Biobricked

The 2014 UT Austin iGEM team felt quite strongly that we should make our ncAA reporter kit widely available as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this complex plasmid is not BioBrick legal, and after considerable consideration and e-mailing with Vinoo Selvarajah (iGEM HQ), we decided to include the relevant information here and be willing to share the kit with any one who requests it until such time as an alternative is found. A portion of our e-mail with Vinoo:

"While your plasmids are certainly valuable and useful, unfortunately, they do not fit easily in to the Registry's current framework; we would not be able to handle, test or distribute these samples properly at this time. We are actively looking at new technologies for the community, including hiring a technologist to focus on issues like this."
