Guidelines
Want to participate in iGEM? Start a team! Whether you're a student or an instructor, you can start at team at your university.
More specific information on how to start a team will be added soon but in the meantime, start thinking about the following:
- Every team must have two instructors
- Teams are generally between 6 to 12 students, from any discipline
- Start fundraising now! Will students get stipends? What about reagents? Remember to budget for travel to the Giant Jamboree!
- Dive in to learning about synthetic biology

Why should you participate in iGEM?
There are many reasons why our iGEMers get involved. Just a few of those are:
- Perform cutting edge research
- Have the chance to be part of a team
- Learn a surprising amount, in a short time, through an unconventional but highly successful method
- Be part of a truly international community
- Work hard AND have fun!
Why do YOU want to participate??
Participate: WHEN
Most iGEM teams work over the summer, but it is never too early to start forming your team and planning your project.
The general iGEM 2014 calendar will be:
- Now: start forming your team
- February 2014: Registration Opens
- March 2014: Registration Closes
- April / May 2014: DNA Distribution kits shipped
- Summer 2014: Work at your school
- July / August 2014: Register to attend the Giant Jamboree
- October 30 - November 3, 2014: Attend the Giant Jamboree!
