29 September - 3 October
during the last few weeks there was one experiment I really wanted to do: Check whether l.lactis can get out of the gel on its own. We know that the pore-size is small enough to keep it encapsulated. but we still wanted to check it.
The way we did this experiment is by pouring a small part of gel and putting this overnight in a GM17 medium. we used 2 variables for this: one healthy gel without scratches or anything and one which was half fractured.
This way the cells that were on the edge maybe came free.
We've tried this with percentages varying from 2.5% until 15% (2.5 - 5 - 7.5 - 10 - 12.5 - 15).
all the healthy gels had no growth in the media, therefor we can conclude that our cells should be stuck.
on the fractured gels it was quite different, I've expected that every percentage would have growth in the GM17 media.
the 2.5% until 10% all had growth, 12.5 and 15 had no growth.
