This year, the Université Libre de Bruxelles competes again in the International Genetically Engineered Machines contest, a competition of synthetic biology organized by the Massachussetts Institute of Technology. Year 2014 will mark the 10th anniversary of the IGEM and will feature a "Giant Jamboree", where all teams will be invited in Boston without regional pre-selection.
Our team will present a new biological system aiming to fight against the emergence of unproductive cell sub-populations in bioreactors by coupling recombinant protein production with an essential protein, thus addicting cells to production. We hope this idea will significantly increase production in fermenters and bioreactors. For further information, please see the page dedicated to the project.
