Science Festival

We were based at the biology laboratories of the University. We could present the iGEM contest and our project by using different items :

  • Odor-free bacteria: We presented the use of a phage to remove the gene responsible of the odor. Bacterial cultures were set up to show the difference of scent between the cultures with or without this gene.
  • Lemon scent : We used models to illustrate the making of the biobricks which allowed us to show the available tools of iGEM and to introduce this concept in a simple and playful way.
  • Colour change : We presented the working of the salicylate inducible suppressing system via a model of the biobrick and how the salicylate acts on it. We also use an equivalent chemical reaction showing the colour change from green to yellow when a reagent is consumed.
  • Lemon shape : Models moulded in coloured agar were exposed to the public to illustrate our project.
