Our project is designed concerning about detection and early warming of radiation dosage so that we can acquire information for its feasibility and market recognition. After questionnaire investigation into market requirement in early times, we concluded that still personnel relating to radiation were bound to be the main consumers for product. In following work, we conducted exclusive interviews with the expected consumer group, including people in Radiation Monitoring Department of Environmental Protection Bureau, in Radiology Department of Renmin hospital and in Nuclear Power Station. Through interviews not only did we harvest valuable suggestions, we earned their support for project as well. We would continue the survey to possible consumers like scientific research personnel involved in radiation in further work.
While investigating consumer market and product design, we were actively communicating with other iGEM teams so that through learning each other our project and team would become much more perfect. In August, we attended the iGEM seminar in Central China where we exchanged ideas with more than 10 teams from Peking University, Wuhan University, Huazhong Agricultural University, South China University of Technology, etc. Throughout exchange, we really benefited from creative thinking as well as a lot of help from other teams. Meanwhile, we kindly offered suggestions to their projects in return. Later we exchanged ideas with Beijing University of Chemical Technology. Both teams acquired a basic understanding of each other and solved several problems in the project at the same time.

However, when the interviewees were asked if they would buy monitoring instrument willingly, merely 6.3% of non-radioactive practitioners would buy definitely and 58% if necessary. Among radioactive practitioners, 40% agreed. Based on the statistics result, we believe that primarily our project aims to radioactive practitioners. During the project investigation, we also got interviewees’ opinions and attitudes towards synthetic biology. From result, most people once ever heard of it or even remained unknown with it. Despite this, almost all of them agreed that much more public promotion ought to be advocated for citizens’ understanding and that we should use synthetic biology to benefit human beings. Nevertheless, most interviewees held worries about the security of synthetic biology. During the questionnaire investigation, we had prepared souvenirs printed with our team logo for interviewees and introduced our project and the booklet of iGEM, eager to their enthusiasm towards our project and iGEM Competition.

We received many great ideas and suggestions from professionals we interviewed. In the meantime, we discovered the flaw of the current detecting methods, so it strengthened our faith of providing anytime-anyplace radiation precaution for related workers.
