INSTRUCTORS

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Gunduz DMD, PhD

  • Esra Gunduz is an Associate Professor in Medical Genetics. This is her sixth year in Turkey after a twelve year experience in Japan. She mainly works on cancer genetics, specifically on tumor suppressor genes. She enjoys being with her students and working with them. iGEM has brought her closer to many of her students. She thinks we share a lot in a scientifically, socially and friendly manner while together. She also likes speaking Japanese and cooking.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gunduz MD, PhD

  • Mehmet Gunduz. He is an otolaryngologist and a specialist in medical genetics. He does not give up any of his subjects; because he likes them all; both working as a surgeon, clinician and a researcher. His hobby is working hard. He likes using the every second of life and always says ‘never give up’.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Omer Faruk Hatipoglu, PhD

  • Omer Faruk Hatipoglu is an iGEM instructor who has moved to Turkey from Japan. He states that he is glad to of assistance to the team, especially in Western Blotting. He wishes good luck to all everyone.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Muradiye Acar, PhD.

  • Muradiye Acar is an instructor our team. She says the progress we are in is a great opportunity to acquire experience. She has enjoyed working with us and helped us in times of trouble. She gives her best wishes for Atoms Turkiye and the rest of the iGEMist community.

Burak Yilmaz

  • Burak Yilmaz has graduated from Middle East Technical University. He is currently working at Turgut Ozal University and provides his knowledge to our team as our instructor.

Sadik Cigdem

  • Sadik Cigdem is an expert on eukaryotic cell culturing and cell therapy. Kindly, he is helping our team on engineering blood vessel cells to offer a novel treatment for heart attacks.

Abdullah Ali Osman Ucar

  • He is a sophomore in medical faculty. He loves bossing the team around. He likes extracting DNA fragments from gel. He says that actions speak louder than words for us. Contact: aucar1299@gmail.com

Ayse Demirci

  • She is a senior year medical student. She says participating in iGEM is one of the greatest personal experiences she ever had. The time she has spent during the lab work and other activities was very instructive for her in every sense. Apart from science, music is an important part of her life. She’s been playing the violin for 11 years in different orchestras. She would like to thank our whole team for the fairy-tale summer and the great time she had. Büşra Aslıhan Öğretici

  • She is a third year medical student. Her favourite experiment is isolation. Apart from working for iGEM she enjoys swimming, reading, discovering and art. If she had the chance to be anything then she would have been someone who has the power to change itself everyday and experience the living of every being. Aysenur Toygar

  • She is a 3rd year medical student at Turgut Ozal Unıversıty. She is responsible for modelling. She loves walking, cooking and talking. The word she uses most frequently is “What?” Contact him: toygaraysenur@gmail.com

Busra Nur Aydin

  • She is a senior year student in medical school. Her love of genetics brought her to iGEM. She usually deals with the software and hardware tools of the team. She is also always the one responsible for making a list of the necessary lab equipment and noting the lacking ones. She likes cooking and can’t resist eating. She gets an adrenaline rush when riding her motorcycle. Contact: None

Fatih Aktas

  • He is a sophomore medical student. He helps in wiki designing, modeling and experiments. For him, the most enjoyable experiment is gel loading. He wanted to be an airliner since childhood. His philosophy of life is "Life is short, don't waste it." Contact him: At Jamboree

Fatma Betul Cevik

  • She is a senior year student of medicine. She likes all of her lessons with no exceptions. She gets excitement in learning new things, especially in the branches of science. She is assuming that’s why she takes so much pleasure in iGEM studies (research, experiments etc.). Furthermore, she thinks the youth will achieve a huge feat in SynBio and in science as long as they are encouraged. She will try to be together with those young scientists which will work with endless desire in every opportunity. Contact: None

Fethi Onal

  • He is in his 3rd year in the medical faculty. He is the coordinator of P&P, Safety and Outreach squads. He also tries to help experiments and research. He likes drinking tea. His idea is that “we are the warriors of love, we have no time for enmity.” Contact: fethional@gmail.com

Furkan Bestepe

  • He is a sophomore at Turgut Ozal University Medical School. He has been a member of our team for two years. His favorite experiment is MicroArray. His hobbies are reading science mags, watching documentaries and making people laugh. His favorite word is belonged to N. Tesla: “Our virtues and flaws cannot be separated just like power and matter. If they are separated human is nothing." If he could be anything, he would want to be a good person that is accepted by everyone, good willed or heinous . Furkan Sacit Ceylan

  • He is a freshman medical student and even now he is the reliable assistant of wiki design and P&P. His love for computers and genetics has found its haven in iGEM. He believes that iGEM is the greatest experience of his life. Mikail Dogan

  • He is a third year student of the medical faculty. He is the brain of our team, the boss once could say. He says “Don’t sleep Just do it” if he wants something done, and one has no choice but to do it. His hobby is TEA, everything related with tea. Mustafa Yilmaz

  • He is a sophomore medical student at Turgut Ozal University. He is a member of P&P, wiki squad and wet lab. His favorite experiment is PCR. He loves playing soccer, riding bikes and travelling. Orhan Sayın

Osman Faruk Tereci

  • He is a second year medical student in Turgut Ozal University. He is the expert of western blotting. He enjoys swimming, reading, taking photos and playing soccer. Ramazan Cetin

  • This is his second year in Turgut Ozal Medical School. He is a reliable assistant for the conduction of modelling, work in wet lab and project research. Safa Tapan

  • He is a third year medical student. Synthetic Biology fascinates him and it constantly raises questions in his mind, questions which remain to be answered. For this reason, each day in iGEM has enabled him to go on a quest in the search of answers. His favorite experiment is western blotting and cell culture. His hobbies are synthetic biology, basketball and politics, specifically politics concerning Middle East. His favorite quote is “Someone asked the wolf why its neck is thick and the wolf replied “Just because I am doing my own work.`" He explains IGEM has been the right choice for him as he often can’t keep himself seated for long!   • He is a sophomore medical school student in Turgut Ozal Medical School. He is in the modelling and P&P squads. His favorite experiment is western blotting. Ayse Celik

  • She is in her second year of PhD works on medical genetics at Turgut Ozal University. She played an important role in our modelling squad. She is our modelling advisor. She doesn’t love wet lab; but she loves dry lab, especially modelling. She said about her hobbies “Try to understand why I’m here (lab)”.
